Professional medical qualifications

Professor David Reid qualified as a doctor in from the University of Aberdeen in 1975, and gained Membership of the Royal College Physicians in 1978. In 1985, Professor Reid completed a postgraduate research degree in medicine (MD) from the University of Aberdeen in 1985, and also has Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh (1989) and London (2004).

 

Professional medical experience

Previously Head of the School of Medicine & Dentistry at the University, Professor Reid is Emeritus Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Aberdeen, and has thirty years experience in the field. A world renowned expert on osteoporosis, the professor has a particular interest on bone densitometry. He practices privately in London at 25 Harley Street. An expert in the clinical application of dual-energy x-ray (DXA) scanning.


He was Chair of the Board of Trustees of the UK National Osteoporosis Society from 2008-2012 and has previously chaired their Research Grants Committee and Medical Board.  Until late 2013 he was the Chair of the Arthritis Research UK Clinical Studies Group with responsibility for advising on the needs for clinical trials in bone diseases.
