MBBS MD FRCP Dr Maisey is a specialist in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancer. After qualifying in 1993 from Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital, he became a member of the Royal College of Physicians 1997. He completed his specialist training in medical oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital. During his specialist training he was successful in a competitive grant from the National Cancer Institute to perform research at the Institute of Cancer Research in London. In 2002 he was awarded an MD thesis for his work on early response markers in Cancer.

Notable clinical achievements and professional memberships

He is currently lead Medical Oncologist for oesophago-gastric cancer at GSTT and has held a number of key roles including service lead for colorectal cancer, vice chair of the upper gastrointestinal tumour working group and medical director for the South East London Cancer Network. He is currently a core member of the Oesophago-gastric priority group for the London Cancer Alliance, overseeing the delivery of care across North-West, South-West and South-East London. He is also a core member of the Carcinoma of unknown primary team at Guys and St Thomas and has been instrumental in developing the service of treatments and pathways for this rare cancer. Dr Maisey is involved in cancer drug development and has been a principal investigator on a number of national clinical trials as well as commercial studies.
